Hi all,

The starter on the Super-M I recently got is prone to getting hung up. Do you recommend that I just pull it and get it rebuilt, or is there some sort of dry lube or cleaner (quick fix) that will keep it from sticking. But maybe it's a bigger problem with the starter than that??? I'm leaning towards option #1 cuz I don't really like doing things halfa$$, but I don't like throwing good money away either if I don't need to.

My superH started this spring with the same problem...I pulled the starter and found the shaft the bendix ramps up on is getting worn and the bendis is catching on the shaft. Sprayed som WD-40 on the shaft and was good for about a week...Pulled the starter and sprayed with White Lyth. spray greese, and didn't have a problem the rest of the year. Starter is back out now and getting fixed propperly for next season. Mike

You could have one of 2 problems or both. The bendex could be bad and or the ring gear could be bad/ruff. I would pull the starter and check both the bendex and ring gear. If the ring gear is ruff you can file the burrs off of it but don't file to much. If the bendex is bad rebuild the starter you could just replace the bendex but its better when its open to just tebuild it and be done with it

WannaBe,

If it's not been serviced in a long long while, I would get it done. I've sent in a couple over the years and glad I did. Cost $99Cdn. Peace of Mind, Priceless!

Pull the starter out and check the ring gear teeth all the way around. If it has some bad teeth repairing the starter my work for a while, and it might not help any. Might need to turn the ring gear over or replace it. ken
