I got a chance to buy an woods l59 mower that a guy said came off his cub. I know it is a l59 because that is what the decals say. I have done some research and it appears that a 59 mower is what a cub uses due to the backwards pto and others use the l59. Then again i see some people online that have an l59 on a cub. So will an l59 mower work on a cub or not?

Atvman: Woods built both right and left turning version of the 59 mower, and that is the only difference in the actual mower deck. From there it is all mounting, belt and pulley for an individual tractor, any make or any model.

If the mounting kit you have is for a Cub, then it's just a matter of getting the belt on the right way. For example to mount that same L59 on a SA you just need SA mounting and drive pulley and change the belt accordingly. The belt for a SA is very likely different length than for a Cub.

This will take you to a Woods cross reference chart if the link below doesn't work

I don't know the specific answer to your question, but my son has a Woods L-59 mower for sale on this site under "classified ads" for $295. It is currently on his 1963 140 and works great, although it looks worse than it is. Actually, it works darn good. Needs TLC in the cosmetics department. Hope this helps you.

I have an L59 on my Cub. I'm sure the PTO direction can be taken care of by a twist in the belt (to reverse the direction of the blades.)
