My H has been sitting for a couple months. I decided to take the old combination intake manifold off it and replace it with a new gas manifold which I did today.

And then I fired it up. It runs...but with a fizzle.

I removed and cleaned all the plugs.

Then fired it up. It obviously is not doing right.

So, while running, I began to pull plug wires..

#4. Tractor stops running when I pull it...back on it and it runs.

#s 3,2 & 1 when I pull them one at a time...I have plenty of spark but no change in the running...Lots of fumes coming from exhaust pipe that I am guessing is gas fumes and not oil fumes.

My daddy always told me that if I had Fire,Gas and compression at the proper time that it would run. Well, I have fire and gas...I am guessing that I have a compression problem, perhaps caused by sticking valves???? I could not find my compression gage to check and will find that tomorrow...Does anyone have thoughts for me to be thinking tomorrow when I get into it...I am thinking about taking the valve cover off and see what is happening.

Might try changing the spark plugs. I have a M that did the same thing after sitting for a month. Ended up being 2 dead spark plugs. Worse thing was I know the plugs didn't have 10 hours on them!

It's only running on that #4 cylinder. Yikes.

Valve and or ring could be sticking. Either way one thing that would help is putting some tranny fluid in the cylinders and let it sit a day or so

I know you are a true believer on the Tranny fluid...I can of course soak the cylinders a couple of days but the valves are another thing...I will give it a try.

After you put the tranny fluid in then use the hand crank and turn the engine over with the plugs in. What that will do is get the tranny fluid up around the valves, BTDT and it does help

Doing that will also tell you if you have a valve stuck open. If you can't turn it over completely that means that at least on that cylinder which ever it might be is getting close to TDC and you can't compress tranny fluid. I use tranny fluid because it costs about half of what MMO costs and does the same thing

Are you sure the new gaskets are in place?
With the engine running, take a spray can of carb cleaner, brake cleaner, etc. and spray around the intake gasket area. If the engine speeds up or changes rpm"s, you have a leak somewhere.
