After a year's worth of other projects, it's time to get moving on this one. The parts are in for the engine and the block is in the electrolysis tank

In the meantime the rest of the tractor is getting smaller. I plan to replace all the seals and rebuild the touch control unit. Below is a link to photos of the project, I'll post more as the project progresses.

Does anyone have experience with the paint sold by Tractor Supply Company? The price is right, but I'm worried about how well it will hold up over time.

I'm sure if the price is right the TSC paint is alkyd enamel, not acrylic. If you will store the tractor inside, out of the sun then alkyd is fine. I have a a couple ten year old paint jobs that were done with Case IH 2150 and they still look great but they are only in the sunlight for play and parades. This is only my opinion, I have seen a number of jobs done with the $100 plus per gallon acrylics that don't look right to me as far as color is concerned. Usually they lean too far towards orange. 2150 is always "Farmall Red". Take a look at the '48 I restored, the paint is IH 2150, no clear, no hardener Link

I read somewhere that the 2150 paint sold at Case has a UV protector added now days. I havent checked on it but if true then it sure would be the paint to go with if your going to use an alkyd.

Gauger, I have looked at your pictures before. You sure did a good job.

I think the TSC paint is made by Valspar. Here is the link for more information:

I used Tractor Supply paint on mine, used the hardner with it. Trouble is that I have heard it will fade in time. I am keeping mine inside so I hope that cuts down on the fading. I guess it all depends on what you are going to do with the tractor after its done and the amount of money you want to spend. I didnt use the supplied air even with the hardner, probly not a good idea. I used a chemical resparator we use for insecticides and painted outside. Mine is a 1948 Super A as well.

I would use the Cross Fire that arod used or PPG's
Omni Single Stage paint with hardener. I used this on a tiller and here's the paint number I used 71310. Here's a picture of a tractor that was restored by Oscar Jutte and he used Cross Fire paint. You need to use a supplied air system with any of this paint too. Hal

sorry, not familiar with "Tractor Supply Company" paint products. Though what I can offer is other paint company knowledge.

I repainted a Farmall M with Crossfire automotive paint from NAPA. I used 2 parts hardener with it and it was beautiful and durable. I am fixing up an H right now, and plan to use Crossfire paint from NAPA again.

I've used the TSC paints on several tractors. It was just as easy to shoot as any other.

The last tractor I painted is my Oliver 1800. I did that 3 years ago. I keep it inside so it still looks good, no rust has come back, but the top of the fenders and the hood have gotten dull.

The other two tractors we have left still around that I painted with TSC paint still look good after 4 years, but these have both stayed indoors except for shows and are not worked.

We also painted a '48 UTU Moline using PPG epoxy and it is a different shade than the TSC paint.

If I repaint again I'll spend a few extra dollars on a more automotive quality paint.
