I just finished my first tractor paint job today. Now the next thing is putting on the decals. I'm not sure what kind I have or how to put them on. The package didn't have any instuctions. It just says IHCH replacement decal set and I paid about twenty bucks for them. Thats as much of a decription as I can give. Anyway, do I have to put them in water and wetten the surface or just peel off the backing and stick them on? Also does the clear part between the letters stay on the tractor or does that part peel away after its applied? Any other hints would be helpful. thanks

Use a magnetic strip to locate where you want the decals before you start placing them

The best way that we have found to put decals on is firts let the apint set for a few days to get good and set then with a real soft penciel place the decals and litely mark the corners as to where they are going to set so both side are the same then use windx or something close and spray the area and peal the back off and place the decal over the wet area and with a bodo squeege start in the middel and start working the water and air out to the far edgesmaking sure that it did not move then when you have all the water and air out litely dry with a soft cloth and let stand to finish dryen . All the decals that i have bought have been the peal and stick kind for many years now and have not seen the soak and peal in years.

Yes, they need to be soaked in water until the backing peels off easily. Sometimes they need to soak for a long time, other times a short time will do it. Also, the surface where the decal is to be applied needs to be sprayed liberally with windex. This will allow you to slide the decal around a bit to get it in the correct position. Once the decal is in position, use a soft cloth or squeegee to work the air bubbles out. Work from the center of the decal to the outside. If a bubble shows up after you thought you were done, just prick the bubble with a small pin or make a small cut with a razor blade to get the air out.
Here's a hint, do not attempt applying the decal wothout the windex, the decal will immediately stick, and you will not remove it without damage.

If you paid 30 bucks then those would be the peel and apply. wet the area first with some soapy water then apply and using wet fingers or sponge you can get air bubbles out and also be able to get positioned better start with small ones then you get a better idea.

51Hwf...I'm not an expert on this, but I can give you a few hints. There seem to be two basic decals--mylar, with the clear section in between the letters, and vinyl--where the letters are cut out and there is no clear section. You appear to have mylar. I'm not sure whether these need to be put in water first (I think so), but I can tell you that the clear section DOES stay there. I'm sure others on the site can tell you a lot more. David
