I have a question, my 4-H instructor is wanting to know if a 1066 International would be good for moving big round bales on a front loader? If we were to use one would the front wheel spindals break?

thank you Zach Phillips

It will work but to much loader work over a period of time will crush the thrust bearings and wear out the spindle bushings faster. Just something to keep an eye on. Also make sure the the bolts for clamping the adjustable axle tube are good and tight so the tube don"t flop. Noticed most when going back and forth and turning at the same time you"ll get a big thunk when it flops. We"ve at times replaced the big clevis pin with a big bolt to help tighten it down more than what just the 2 bolts can do.

I move them all the time. Some times just loading and them some times out of the field. I run in Hi 2 when moving them from the field. No problem. The 1066 has a strong front end in my opinion.

Steve: Poor front end in my opinion for that large of tractor, and mine never had a front end loader. It did have dual wheels and twice front end dropped in holes, and we recovered the front wheel and bottom half of spindle under the rear wheels and once under cultivator behind tractor.

It should have either had a straight axle with king pins like a truck or 4 wheel drive. Either case minimum front tire should have been 14x24. The 1066 front end is really very little heavier the 656 or 560, and I'll bet the front end weight of a 1066 without loader is double that of either the other two.
