I recently bought a farmall c. It runs very rich. I replaced points, condensor, cap, rotor, wires and plugs. I installed Champion d-21 plugs to try and make the spark hotter. I cheked the timing (100 or so times) set the points (about 10 times) moved the timing to just about every degree that the tractor would run. cleaned and adjusted the carb float. Took the jet out and put a smaller one. (made it not want to run without the choke pulled out a little). The compression is around 110-120 in all cylinders. I removed the air cleaner assymbly and ran it without one. All this and no sucess no matter what I did if it will run at all it runs rich. Now what?

HELP if you can but something to think about. It has a Carter Carburator on it and I cannot find anywhere where a Carter was used on a C.

Sounds like you know what you"re doing.

But I"ll take some guesses. You said you put in a smaller jet, then had to choke it a little to get it to run - how could it still be rich if you had to choke it? See what I mean?

Why do you think it"s running rich - are the plugs fouling, or is it smoking, or ? Is is missing? Tell us more....

Maybe you have tried already, but adjust the float down 1/8 inch at a time & see if that improves the engine operation. I had to go 2 or 3 times on our SC to get it to quit blowing smoke. Warped aluminum or pot metal lower bowls on these carbs can be trued up again by using a belt sander. Leave sander off, & use hand pressure only to run the bowl on the sandpaper. Would work just as well with the sandpaper placed on a 2x8 I'd guess.

If memory serves, the Super C came with a marvel carb on it,which are better. This might be the route to go.

I had a 1950 Farmall C, and it had a Carter carb on it,and it ran too rich.My advice to you is get rid of this carb, because they are useless, and replace it with one off a Super A,or off a newer farmall, like a 200 or 230.The carb was the worst part of the C I had.

How old is the Gas? What gas are you useing? (octane, E85, etc)Have you cleaned out the oil bath air cleaner that your air breaths threw? It may be dirty and thick making your carb rich, And theres nothing wrong with the carter carbs thats on my 2 Super Cs they work fine unless you have one thats warped!
