Hello,
I have a 1943 Farmall H and I'm thinking about buying new aluminum pistons and sleeves for the tractor. I would like to know if I could change them without removing the entire engine, and I don't want to tear up the motor. Could this job be done by removing the cylinder head(and anything mounted to the head), water pump and the oil pan??? If not, what is the least amount of engine parts that would have to be removed? Thanks, red43farmallh

You can do that provided the crankshaft doesn't need to be ground. Good idea to have new cam bearings installed. Those sleeves are dry sleeves and may be pressed in and you will need a puller. Hal

The head has t ocome off to get the sleeves out, so whatever you have to take off to get it off has to be removed. As Allan said, since it hasto come off anyways, have a machine shop go through it.

Yes Sir,

That's called an "In-frame overhaul".

Have the machine shop go thru that head and put new bearings across the crank.

Yeah,

I kinda said that wrong, didn't I?

Yes, you do all the work, except for the head. Have a machine shop go thru it.

Allan
