Hi everyone. Just took receipt of 1466 and I"m SOOOO excited. Looks like I have a little bit of work on her....but overall, she is a nice one.

Have a question, though, regarding the front end. I noticed there is approximately 3/4 inch or more gap where the front pin that holds the axle and the axle itself. There are 3 or 4 large washers on the pin but still a good sized gap between the axle and where the axle is held on via the pin (hope this makes sense). I"m not familiar with the 1466 front end and not sure if this is normal or not.

So if any of you have some pictures that you could take of your 1466 (or similar) front end, I"d love to have them for a reference point.

Thanks!

Probably got too much grease. Check the toe on the front end when you are through with the shims. Toe in of 1/8 to 3/16 will make it steer very well.

Are you talking about the pivot pin?

Allan -- this is exactly the photo that I was looking for! The gap exists between the axle that rides the pivot pin and the inverted "L" piece of cast that holds it all. I also noticed that on that "L" piece of cast, there is a ridge that come down and rides behind a groove in the axle. On mine, the ridge is literally on top of the axle.

Best I can tell, the axle on mine needs to be pushed forward. This picture is awesome and tells me a lot! Really, really appreciate it pal!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

If you are describing what I think you are, then I have experienced the same thing. When I bought the 1466 from my father-in-law, I had to road it 60 miles home in a light rain (some fun with a canopy but no cab). The steering was so loose, I had trouble keeping it between the ditches. When I got home I got a friend to help me add 3 washers to that pin. There is still a gap, but not nearly what it was, and the steering is much better now.
