When tractor is initially started--it will not move.
If you run the throttle up to about 1600-1700 RPM's, and move hydro lever forward, the tractor will then take off. If you idle it back down, it will work perfectly fine. Reverse works perfectly fine. As long as you don't shut it off for more than 30 seconds. If you let it off for more than 30 seconds, you have to repeat this same procedure all over again: running the throttle up to 1600-1700 RPM's and moving the hydro lever forward -- it then will move again. You then can go forward or backwards at any RPM. -- Just can't turn it off and start again. Any help? I'll be grateful!

After doing checks Allen suggested, I would check the shuttle spool for sticking, forward and rev check valves, and fwd & rev relief valves for sticking pistons. These components can be checked without major dissambly.

You're losing charge oil for sure.

Do the power steering and brakes also fail until you rev the tractor, or are they both totally normal?

The steering and the brakes work beautifully. The Charge pump pressure is 450 PSI. Servo pressure is 400.

Marvin,

It almost sounds as though a valve is "dumping" until that higher pressure hits it.

I'm assuming you've done the simple things like the filter, checking the foot-n-inch valve adjustment, the control lever adjustment, etc.?

Does the tractor lug okay when it does "act right", or is it weak in the knees? Is this problem in both forward and reverse or just forward?

Have you tried unhooking those two little bleed lines and blocking 'em off at the transmission to see if it will operate normally just using the mechanical lever?

That would eliminate all hydraulic controls upwards of the transmission and tell you where the problem lies; be it either upstairs in the control valve bank or down in the transmission itself.

Thanks for your input. I had rebuilt the hydro from front to back and from top to bottom. Yes, I isolated the tubes coming out of the transmission. The tractor is extremely strong when it does work right-- in forward and reverse. I already know that the problem is inside. I'm not sure if it is one of the check valves in the charge manifold or the shuttle valve. My charge pump pressure is excellent and my servo pressure is excellent. Charge pump pressure is okay even at 5000 PSI in forward or in reverse.

Are you getting charge pressure right off the bat when you start it? Or, do you have to rev it up to even get the pump pressure up initially?

I would definitely check fluid levels and condition of the fluids. I dont know much about the hydros (does that mean hydraulic drive or what?), but if it is, definitely check the fluids. I'm sure others will chime in with alot better help then me, I'm a newbie!!
