I saw a guy that ran a generator off the belt, then had a switch for the lights. worked pretty good except they were a little dimmer when he was at idle.

It is terminology. IHC made two lighting kits that fit in front of the Mag. One bolted in line with the mag and one was bolted onto the oil fill lid. They were both called it a "generator" (IHC parts 18212D and 13162DAX). They called each one an "Electric Lighting Attachement." It did not require a battery and only provided light when the motor was running. See pages 237-250 of F-20 parts manual

Unfortunately there's no way to pull lighting power from a magneto...

If you need lights only occasionally, a fully charged portable booster battery pack (a "jump start" battery) will power a pair tractor floodlights for an hour or more. A booster pack is a lot easier to haul around and recharge than a regular battery. And if you wire the tractor light(s) to a cigarette lighter plug you can simply set the booster pack someplace handy on the tractor then stick the lighter plug into the booster outlet.

Just a thought...

Why dont you run a generator off the fan pulley then with a battery you could have all the lights you want.

on the f20, they made a generator that runs between the govenor and mag. the mag would be moved back on a special bracket. the generator would run the lights without a battery. pg

Not CHANCE the mag will power lights.
