Leaking Shims

I have had this trouble before, but on some of these belt pulley units they have shims to get the correct right angle gear engagement. These shims are on the outboard bearing cap (just did one for a belt pulley assy on a Cub) and there is no seal ahead of them. Do you put some non hardening sealant on these shims or what to keep it from leaking through the shims? My Cub leaks a little gear oil out the shims, so do I need to take it apart and coat each shim with a sealant and then reassemble? Roger

Have you used copper gasket spray, available from Permatex? Used it on the transfer case in my Willys, worked great. gp
