Been soaking the cylinders in my F-20 for a year and a half. Got the old girl home last night and took the head off. The sleeves and everything were rust free and looking good. I had one heck of a time pulling a push rod from the lifter. My clutch is froze to the point I cannot even budge the pedal. I'm guessing I have a stuck lifter but surprised with a little tug on the crank she didn't break loose. Sure hate to take the cam out to find it was never a lifter. The engine is in great shape otherwise. I'm also going to pull the clutch apart. On this forum once someone had a stuck engine and discovered the clutch housing was full of mouse nests causing the problem. Not sure how that is possible but I will not rule anything out at this point. The radiator cap was left off and the mice have been living in the radiator and engine block for some time. What a mess!! Just confused why the engine is stuck so tight and thought I would share with you guys.

My '27 Regular was stuck because of the clutch and mice and rust. As soon as I took the old gang clutch loose from the flywheel, the engine turned as free as a new one.

I've found half of the starter drive gear broken off and stuck between the flywheel and the bell housing; 'tighter than a drum' (I never really saw a very tight drum).

I've never thought of a Mag sticking so maybe tonight I will take it off and see if that is the culprit.

I broke down my H and found two push rods bent on the cylinder closes to the operators seat. Does this necessarly mean my cam in bad???? What would cause these to bend, the piston and sleeve did not look too bad. It has not ran for about 12-15 years. I am going to have the block tanked and probably order the Major overhaul kit for YT.com. i hope my cam and crank are OK..

I don't think any kind of bad cam could damage your pushrods, I would first guess that the valves on that cylinder were stuck and it got cranked over.

I am glad we are thinking of maybe the same thing. I thought maybe someone tried to turn it over ( maybe even by hand) and the piston was froze and just bent the rods. Thanks for the uplifting advice.

I have had clutches that I had to break the bell housing to get apart. Yeah, those mice are BAD NEWS

I planned on waiting until Saturday but had the inspection cover on the clutch housing calling my name last night. Took the cover off and like everything else packed clear full of mouse nests. Took the shop vac and sucked out all I could. What a mess, the pressure plate is all rotted. Took the mag off and it is not stuck. I'm shocked to see the cylinders are nice and clean with no rust. Then I looked underneath and noticed minor rust up around the bottom of two pistons. A mixture of Seafoam and tranny fluid in each cylinder and let her soak until Saturday. Then will be the tedious process of taking one piston out at a time. I'll keep you guys posted.

WOW!! Now that is some scary news. Never had it that bad before but in the past I could at least budge the clutch pedal a little. This one has no intention of budging at all. I'm crossing my fingers now. Good to hear from you Howard!!

I would agree with Old on removing the pistons to make sure they're not seized. Hal

Yup, I agree. I've made plans to do this job on Saturday. I have a young helper that is eager to join the ranks on tractor restoration. This will be a fun job for the two of us. I have no option but to remove the sleeves and pistons and clean out the mouse nests in the coolant passages in the block. I've never seen that before. That's what makes this hoppy so fun, always finding something new. Just wasn't sure if a stuck lifter could really cause a tractor to be that stuck.

I would pour some ATF into each cylinder and let it soak until Sat. Hal

Well since you have the head off you can also pull the oil pan and rod caps off and see if its really the piston stuck or if its something else. If you can push the piston up and off the crank then you know your problem is some place else in that one
