Did IH make a B Farmall with wide front end? If so does anyone know what years they were made?

Case catalog and my service books show both a single wheel and narrow dual wheels for a "B" and a "BN". It also says that the early BN was an option designated by X7 after the serial number for a while. BUT I cannot find out what the difference between a B and a BN really is. I had thought that the BN might be the 'narrow' dual wheel version of the B but it shows both for both. Otherwise it seems that they were an A with the narrow front end. What is the difference?

There was no X7 on the serial # of any BN. Serial # started with prefix FABN. tHE BN is 8in narrower that a B. There were no Bs at factory with wide fronts. There were some converted by using steering sector and axle from an A in the field. Front wheels were same option for BNs as Bs. 15,000 or so BNs were built.

The BN is 8 inches narrower than a B IN THE BACK. The choices for the front were the same.

If you use the search function, you may be able to find a previous thread with some pictures that illustrate the difference.

the front bolster for an A will fit onto a B then someone who is good at welding could extend the left axle tube to match the B. I don"t think a C bolster would work that well because I might be wrong but I think the steering shaft goes down its left side.

you are correct about the C front. It would be easier to change the drives on an A to widen the tractor than to change the front on a B.

as long as someone doesn"t go the other way and narrow the b like the a. It may be possible to set up some bracketry under the fuel tank with some sprockets and bicycle chain to use the c front end but the only advantage I can see to doing it is showing off your redneck engineering skills.

The farmall B was never made with a wide front. The A was wide front only, the C could be had wide or narrow.

I built a wide front end B. I used the steering box off of the A and built a new axle tube, looks factory. It should be back together in a couple of weeks. I'm going through the motor.
