My Cub Tractor has a negative ground hook-up at this time. Will I damage any parts by changing it back to the orginal factory hook-up with positive ground? Any help would be appreicated.

The early Cubs were 6 volt with positive ground. Later they were 12 volt with negative ground. The very last Cubs, relatively few in number, had 12 volt alternators, which cannot be polarized and will be damaged by any attempt to do so. The point is that identifying your existing charging equipment is important.

JW, EXCELLENT advice from Bob, the only other thing might be if ????? ? it has an ammeter its leads may also need swapped or else it could read bass ackwards. The riskiest part as he well covered is NOT to hook up a VR to a genny that isnt first correctly polarized cuz it might leak its smoke lol

If it still has a generator, (rather than someone having put an alternator on it), you can switch it back to (+) ground.

You MUST polarize the generator AFTER swapping the battery leads, but BEFORE starting the engine for the first time with the battery leads swapped.

If battery ignition, verify that the (-) terminal an the coil will be fed from the ignition switch, and the (+) coil terminal will connect to the distributor (points/condensor) for (+) ground operation.

Myself, if it is starting well and charging, I would leave it "as-is", 'cause there's always a small chance the polarity of the generator won't switch, even after "polarizing", and, if this happens, all the smoke can be let out of the generator and regulator in a quick hurry, after the tractor is started up and later shut down.

GOOD LUCK, if you decide to try it. Probably well over 90% of the time, the polarity swap will work with no problems, AS LONG as the generator is polarized before being started again.
