For my starter tank on my H all fuel, what gas cap is correct? I've seen bubble tops and flat tops, and I've seen a bubbled up top with a hole that claims to be for a starter tank. Which is correct?

Hey Mike....did you get your free catalog from OEM Tractor parts yet? If not, request one--they are great reference items in addition to being a good place to get hard to find repro parts.

That is a cap for the main tank. He needs a cap for the small tank that held about 1 gallon of gasoline, used on the distillate and kerosene burning engines.

Youp, if you look at WilliamF's picture you will see the starter tank right in front of the main tank's cap. Right behind the temp gauge.

I don't know what's 'correct,' but I do know that if it's a slip on plastic flat top like mine it's wrong. I don't think PVC had been invented in '46.
My main tank cap is Safety Police 'correct,' and no black stains on the paint. Plenty of pollen that day, though.
To be a little more helpful, the part number for the starter tank cap is 40756 D, gasket 40762 D.
Good luck, Wm

My 1938 f-20 has "bubble top" caps with vent hole in the middle. My guess is the H should as well. However, you may want to seriously consider getting the new, free safe caps from CaseIH

I have a new safety cap from IH for the main tank. I want a correct cap for the starter tank, since it isn't going to hold any fuel, it's just for looks.

Mike, some guys do use the small tank as a reserve tank. Not real important one way or the other but it is food for thought.
