I posted this about two or three years ago for comment and we came up with a few logical assumptions. The serial number on my F-12 (IHC engine) block reads FSR 649. That "R" has been bugging me ever since. The only remnant left of it being a Waukesha at one time, besides the low number, is the front tank support. There were never any rivet holes for a serial number tag so I am assuming when changed, the front tank support was left as is. The gas tank, front bolster and frame rails are not from a Waukesha. When I ran this by many moons ago it was pretty much assummed by the group, and I think probably accuratly, that it was indeed a conversion/retrofit from the Waukesha to the IHC configuration. What was interesting to me among other things was no one commenting on the board at the time had ever seen another example of it on other F-12 conversions. A good question I have no answer for is, was the IHC engine replacement stamped with the original Waukesha serial number and if so did other conversions receive equal treatment? It has been awhile and so I am bringing it up again in the chance that perhaps this time someone reading this has seen this serial number treatment before or has knowledge of whether this was common on conversions or not. Thanks, Curtis

Would you point me in the direction of where I might find that conversion information? Thanks for your feedback.

My guess is that the "R" stands for replacement and the 649 is the serial number for replacement engines. Replacement engines were probably assigned serial #s just like tractor and power unit engines. So my guess (assuming that they started with 501 like everything else) is that your engine is the 149th replacement F-12 engine.
I do have some IHC documentation that lists all the parts of the conversion kit.
