Click the link, you can see what the IH 6 cyl looks like bolted into the H bellhousing with extended frame rails. Gives you an idea on what it would take if you used H rails,,, Best to use 460 rails. Hope this helps that fella out that was asking. ChadS

Chad did you use the 460 clutch,is the H input shaft a match or did you have to make an adapter. I thought the H was a smaller spline

yes, I used the 460 pressure plate, and a Super H clutch disk. 460 and the Super H both used a 10.5" clutch, the Super H still had the H spline. ChadS

Most recent photo,,,, Taken back in September. Now, I built this as a pulling tractor,,, but, something like this can be used on the farm for sure!! Lots of fellas wanna use late model parts on an older tractor to enhance performance,,, so I figured,, if it works that way,, why not use older parts to do the same thing??? The most amazing thing about IH tractors, is bout every part made back then, can be used to swap, and match parts to all the other models without much alteration, fabrication, and money. A M rear end would be stronger,, and something like this can be built for less than what you can buy the actual tractor for anyways,,, JMHO,, enjoy! Chad

Thanks for the pics- neat to look at, and it'd be fun to throw something like that together if a guy had parts and peices of various models lying around.

Just curious though- supposing a guy was starting from scratch, didn't have any parts yet. Is there some reason why not to just start with a 460 to begin with? What I'm getting at here, is there some advantage in pulling competition, class rules or something, to be able to say that it originally was an H?

The reason I built it, is to get lighter in weight,,,, under 4000lbs, 3500 to be exact. In open classes,,, pullers put in the biggest engine they can in the smaller tractors to get the HP advantage. Example would be an oliver 77 with the big 310 engine,,,, thats allowed,,, so why not do the same thing,,,, just with different parts,,,,, Its IH's answer to this setup when they get into the 3500# class.
