on my 1949 Farmall C going with 12-Volts. using a 12-volt coil that says use an external resistor.I need help on wiring it. where does the switch wire go and what side of the coil do I connect the resistor and from the coil what side goes to the distributor?

NC, I agree with Jim assuming, of course, your wired up for negative ground????? I always warn of things like that having been a used tractor dealer and saw sooooo oo many jury rigged and swapped grounds REGARDLESS how the tractor came from the factory grrrrr rrrrr if you happened to be at Positive ground (I doubt it) the coil leads simply get reversed while the external ballast resistor, as he points out, still wires in series after the switch and before the coils high input (NOT to distributor) terminal

From the switch wire connect to one side of the resistor. From the other side of the resistor attach to the positive side of the coil. From the ngative side of the coil attach to distributor/points.
If you are using a solenoid for starting, the I terminal of the solenoid (small post next to the S post) run a wire to the coil positive side. That should do it, JimN
