I have a 47 SA, is there any difference other than the hydrolics. Could I get a regular A for parts? I would have the same engine and tranny, correct?

The Super A has little bit more power than the A, in addition to the hydraulics. Very tough little tractor. Old IH mechanic told me one time that the Super A would be around till the end of time. Very well built. You will like the tractor and be surprised at what it'll do.

Avery: As far as we know the Super A didn't have more hp than the A The engine specs are identical. A lot of folks that had both tractors when they were relatively new, will tell you the addition of live hydraulics actually cut drawbar and belt horsepower on the Super A, versus the A.

The Super A was never tested at Nebraska, thus there is really no official test saying it was more horsepower.

I've owned 6 offset tractors in my lifetime, can't actually say each one had a bit more horsepower over the last model. My tractors were 3 Super A, 2 - 130s and a 140. 100, 130 and 140 should have had more horsepower from the C-123 engine however larger tires, basically offset the increase in power. Right now, I still have a Super A, 130 and 140, on hard ground the SA will give the other two a hard run on a drawbar pull, with the right driver might even outpull the 130 and 140. The 130 and 140 do get an edge on soft ground where flotation is important. I know there was a just for fun tractor pull on a hard track a few years back. I took my Super A, watched those guys with bigger tires spin out before I did. Had they held that pull in a plowed field, I'd have taken the 130.

There may be more different parts than same parts. Besides the differences already mentioned, the final drive housings are different. Some internal transmisison parts are different. Depending on the age of the A, there may be a different transmisison case with more different internals.

Brett, The torque tube on the Super A is milled flat and tapped for the hydraulic touch control. The engine block has the hole underneath the magneto for the hydraulic pump. And the rear fenders have the rockshaft between them on the Super along with heavier fenders with the holes to mount the rockshaft.

thanks Scotty, i've only had my SA for 2 weeks, still trying to figure out what i have. I'm getting there though, rebuilt the hydrolics, 4 new tires/rims, new oil guage that shows 40 psi at idle, i'll change all the gear oil in the rear and tranny this weekend and start riding it around the farm
