Was wondering about the rings on the new pistons, is there a particular orientation they should be in, ie...top ring facing 12:00 position from front of tractor, second ring facing 3:00, and oil ring faing 6:00 or something?

assuming front of tractor is the 12:00 position

also, any suggestions/secrets to installing new sleeves? any sealer required or just the rubber o ring?

thanks in advance

thanks for all the replys, to sum it up, it realy doesnt matter on the rings as long as the gaps arent right over top of each other or near each other? as for the notch on the flat top pistons that didnt come with instructions, the notch points towards the front? and dish soap on the sleave o ring will help it slide in? i also have my sleaves in the freezer, i read that helps going to try and install tomorow. i have rebuilt 2 350's and 1 454 in my life but this is my first sleaved engine, so if you see that i am about to do something wrong, please respond to this post. thanks to all for all the help.

T here should be instructions with the kit as to placement of the rings and the arrow does the sleeves fit in the o-rings correct sometimes the wrong stuff is sent because mistakes are made. Cleaning is the most important so the flanges of the sleeves can seat.

Make sure you clean the area in the block where your sleeve seals are installed. I just coated the bottom of the sleeve with with dish detergent
when I was installing them into the seals. Hal

the notch goes to the front of the engine towards the radiator.

I havn't used a Tisco kit, but there usually is an indicator on a piston to show which way is toward the front. Clevites have an arrow for instance.

If the pistons are not flat top, look at the combustion chamber in the head, the dome has to fit into it. There can be only one way to reassemble that they don't hit the head.

i set the ring gaps so they dont line up, like the way you describe, as far as the rubber o-rings, i remeber reading somewhere to dunk them in liquid laundry soap, when i rebuilt my farmall b , i used the laundry soap, works good. sleeves should drop in pretty easy. be sure to clean the groove in the top of the block where the sleeve sits, otherwise the sleeve wont go in all the way. the head holds the sleeve in so when you put the pistons in, they may walk back out, use a short bolt and washer to hold the sleeve in.
