I have an MD with a rusty tank. I cleaned it out about 5 years ago when I rebuilt the tractor. I used a product from Eastwood company to get rid of the rust and mistakenly thought that it would not rust with diesel fuel in it (wrong!). I see in Red Power magazine that a company called Classic Gas Tanks in Gifford, IL cleans and installes a liner in fuel tanks. Has anyone used them and had success with it? Roger

Fuel tank liners are for the purpose of repairing LEAKING fuel tanks. If you clean your tank, and it doesn't leak, why would you want to line it with some product that will eventually break down? Your local Yamaha m/c shop sells a two step product for cleaning and neutralizing a tank. Or you can use a product called Metal Prep, which contains phosphoric acid, from your local auto body shop supplier.

Check with your local radiator shops. One in Springfield, Illinois will dip, clean (down to bare metal) and line your tank for a reasonable price. I routinely have this done when I restore a tractor. I found about them from a friend who was restoring a motorcycle and had the tank lined.

yesterdays tractor sells a liner for about 33.00 quart. you will need two for the md. i have used them with no problem. you need to get the tank clean first. wash it out with m.e.k. ( methel ethel ketone) you can get it at ace hardware.) let the tank dry good and follow the directions on the can.

Roger, I dont know anything about the company you mentioned. I do know that several people on the board have used other products that you can buy over the shelf and applied the coat themselves. From what they said, it wasnt too difficult. I cant remember the product name that they used though. You might try your local auto parts store and see if they have anything or someone else on the board might chime in with something. Also you might try to do a search and see if you can find anything. Another product is "Johnson's Fuel Tank Liner", made by a company in Iowa. Available at radiator shops, $15- 20 per quart, will do 2-3 tractor tanks per quart.
