Not a hard fix at all. Sounds like you caught the inner bearing failure quickly. Remove PTO and drain the tranny, probe around in there with a magnet on a rod or shaft. Support the bull gear exactly where it is with a piece of cut to fit wood wedge. Pull the axle and replace the bearing/bearings as needed. Or if you are not too far from Mitchell SD I can help or buy the thing.

I'll give you $300 for it if you bring it over.

The biggest problem is that the shards of the bearing fell inside the rearend. the big stuff will settle to the bottom, but the little stuff will get circulated through the rest of the bearings.

Like anything on an H, it is an easy repair. You just have to remove the top cover to make sure that everything is clean. I spent about $500 to replace all the bearings in the transmission on my H.
