Tired of dealing with the mag on my A. Can anyone walk me thru The correct way to swap the mag setup for the distributor and coil off an A I found. Does this distributor setup also work on an M tractor? Thanks,

What's wrong with your mag? They're usually trouble free. You can convert the mag to act like a distributor by using an automtotive coil
and the points in the mag. I can email you a picture if you want to see it. You wouldn't need to remove the mag. Hal
PS: You would still need to run battery voltage to the coil and to the points in the mag.

In addition to what's posted below, I think ya might have to do a bit of rewiring too, since if I remember right the on-off switch grounds the mag, and you'll need to rework it to supply current to the coil.

If you can find Bob M's wiring diagrams on here(search the archives or maybe there's a link at the left side of the page???) and compare a mag diagram to a distributor diagram it'll be self-explanitory.

Swapping isn't all that hard to do. Get the engine at TDC, remove the mag and then with the cap off the distubutor put the distubutor on and run the wires as needed. Reason for haveing cap off is so you can see which nipple on the cap will be #1
