casting codes

I have a farmall H and the serial no. plate is missing. how can I figure out the year from the casting codes.

Casting codes start in 1939 with A (example 3*15*A) and run consectitively to 1950 with T, U and W were used in 1951 and V was skipped, X is 1952, Z is 1954 and 1955 starts over with A. You will also find a few casting codes that have actual dates, most I have seen were 1946 and 1947 (example 3*15*1946).

8 23 I would be Aug. 23 1939 as I understand it for US models.

Not going to say all H have matching tractor and engine serial numbers, but all I ever owned did. Several from 41 up to 51 models. If tractor has the original engine that serial # will probably give you the year by looking at serial numbers on this site. Date code list has been posted before,should find them in archives.

I think,which is scarry for an old man, but casting I is 1939,you can figure from there, don't believe the used U or V. I probably will be corrected on this

Post a number of the casting codes and some one will tell you what year they mean. I don't have the list for that but I know each letter means a differant year
