There is a gear box on my 1963 IH 340 with power steering. It is located just forward and under ths dash. It has a top fill plug that is difficult to get to. Takes gear oil and most leak. The arms connecting to the steering rods come out of this housing. I was told to never let it get dry.
Hope this helps.

Should be a plug on the side of the transmission housing, most likely on the LH side for fill level indicator on the transmission (Hytran/Hydraulic) fluid. Not sure of where the fill hole is, some of the of the others will be able to tell you where that is. Hope fully the year that you indicated is a typo; 1958 to 1963 production years for the 340"s.

The one up front and low sort of in front of the distubutor is for engine oil. And as far as the pwoer steering if its like the 340 I have the fluid goes in by the shifter, you use hy-tran fluid there. The power steering nd other hyds use the same pump and also the same fluid
