i have a farmall 400D that has sat for approximately 20 years. i got it running and working a couple of months ago. i hooked up to an old mower and tried the hydraulics last weekend. it would shove the cylinder in or out depending on what way i hooked up the lines. the next day i came out and changed the valve from single to dual and now none of the valves work. i drained the fluid and the screen was packed so full that it crushed itself. i replaced that and it still wont work. does anyone have any suggestions for me. i dont want to tear this thing apart if i dont have to. thanks

Sounds like maybe it lost it's prime? I changed fluid in a 450 farmall one time and had to blow a little air in the vent on top of the reservoir to get it to prime. One other thought is when you changed from single to double acting did the valve hit a stop while turning. Sometimes the pin is missing in the top of the valve, and you are not lined up right.

so i can use some compressed air in the vent tube to basicly "force" the fluid through. wont that mess something up?
