Well, you boys have about got me convinced I ought to get a 300 or 350 instead of an H or SH, due to the benefits of having live pto, live hydraulics and to get to experience the joy of rebuilding/replacing a T/A every five years.

But, I love the looks of the H/SH with its beautiful lines. I can put a prom dress on a pig when I get determined enough, but - does anybody know - will H sheet metal fit on a 300 carcass with little or no trouble?
Thanks.
mike

I was thinking about doing the same thing to my 300... I really hate the battey box under the seat combo, hydraulic leaks from the hydraulic valves, and the 300"s sheetmetal is pain to take off...(mice love to build nests under there!)

Painted up it does look nice though..guess I will have to fix those leaks...

Yes it can be done, they make SHTA out of them. Your bigest problem without using late SH parts would be a hydraulic reservior and valves. Also if you put a H or SH transmission top cover on 300,350 the shifting forks need to be modified. If you have a H doner tractor thats the biggest problems. If you don't care if it looks near total original a home made or aftermarket hydraulic reservior can be fitted under gas tank. Think you will find the center housing on a H and the T/A housing on a 300 ETC. measures the same length. Frame rails were longer on 300,350. So if changing use H frame rails and not the early ones that used rubber engine mounts.

Come on Mike, you aren't going to have to rebuild the TA every five years. Sheesh. If you get a good one, you probably won't ever have to replace it in your lifetime. If the TA is out on the tractor you buy, you'll replace it once with a good one from Steel Wheel Ranch. TAs are not the horror story that you seem to think they are. Keep it adjusted, and it will give you thousands of hours of reliable service. It will outlive you.

What's so ugly about a 300 or a 350? They're not all that different looking from an H. Painted up nice they make quite a handosome tractor.

If you hate the look so much, you can make the 350 into a controversial Super HTA! You'll have to give up the 350's hydra-touch system (the steering pedestal) to get the right look, and do some fabricating, but it's been done many times.

Where are you located? If you decide to go Super HTA, I may be interested in the 300's sheet metal for a project of my own: Farmall 330. :)

The remark about replacing the T/A every 5 years was intended as dry humor. However, I did figure I might have to do it one time, initially.

I never said the 300/350/400/450 tractors are ugly, and I never said I hated them; you injected those words. My point was, I just like the letter series look so much more. If it was an easy swap, I might consider it. If not, I probably would not bother.

I am in Pensacola.

No the sheet metal is all different. The radiator in the 300 is taller and therefore the grill won't work. Because of teh torque teh 300 is 9 inches longer. The hood from an H is too short also.
