Thanks to everyone that told me to leave my carb alone yesterday! I am good at messing up something that is fine, heehee. My next question, my Farmall H sometimes sputters/ spits like it is comming from the exhaust while going down hill with the throttle below 1/2 way open. It isn't that much but I want to know if I have a problem. I posted about this a while ago and was told to see if any sparks (unburnt gas) was burning in the exhaust. I finally had a chance to take it out in the dark last night ( with the tractor at operating temperature) and there are no sparks. Could I have a valve or point problem or is it backpressure from going down hill? We just adjusted the valves and the points maybe have 10 hr on them. Thanks!!

As Rusty says, its normal and you only have a problem in your mind not your tractor. I would worry if it didn't do that since all its doing is holding you back from going faster then the tractor wants to go so it has to do something with the gas that is not being burned so it pops at you a little to let you know thats it is still holding you from flying down the hill

Rusty is correct, the unburned fuel from a closed throttle (Idle fuel) and the heat of the manifold will cause that manifold combustion noise. It is never encountered on autos because they have fuel shutoff systems that prevent the engine from getting fuel under those conditions (on modern fuel injected engines that is)

Once again, your H sounds like a typical H to me. Some of the Ms will actually pop loud and even belch a little fire while going downhill. I'd leave it alone.
