I know I'm probably not the first guy to do this, but I'm so tickled with myself I just had to show off.

The threads for the lug bolts on the front hubs on my old 1466 were about shot. I had two or three that you couldn't really even tighten anymore. About a year ago I replaced the front wheel-bearing assemblies on my 94 Dodge diesel pickup. The new bearing assemblies came with new studs. Being a "practical" farmer,,,I never throw anything away (just aske the MRS). I took a die grinder and ground out what was left of the threads and drove the studs in. I did have to put a 5/8 lock washer on the back-side of the stud because they were a little long. I bought some new large 15/16 wrench-size lug nuts and once again, I'm farm'in in style with my 40 year old equipment ;)

We have been using studs for and old 743 bobcat loader right length need no washer behind them just clean the old threads out of hub and push them in.

Some "Grade 8" flatwashers, on the backside of the hub, under the bolt (stud) heads would be a GOOD idea.

Bob,

Do you think the lock washers will cause me any problems in the future? I used them because that is what I had on hand.

I was feeling pretty smug with myself, but anyone putting Dodge parts on a Farmal ought to be a little suspect when it comes to his reasoning ability.

You darned right!

That's called "creative engineering". Sure looks good to me.

Thanks for sharing the idea. :>)
