I seem to have an annoying whine coming from my SMTA. Is that caused by the live hydraulics? If it is, what can I do about it? I never heard that from my Farmall 560.

Are you sure it is comming from the hydraulic pump and not the PTO? The PTO tends to whine a bit when disengaged. Solution is to disconnect the seasonal disconnect if still equiped or put a shield on it and run with it in neutral(between engaged and disengaged. If it is hydraulic, do yo have enough oil in system?

From my experience, Many SMTAs, 00, and 50 series IH/Farmall tractors whine from the hydraulic pumps to one degree or another. If it is radical, and the pump/fluid gets hot as blazes very quickly, then a control valve may be stuck, or a steering diverter may be set at too high a bypass pressure. If it is not causing heating, and it is responding well with good lift and operation, it may be just noisy. Wear in the pump can make noise, as can air leaking into the suction side. If the hytran looks clean, and it seems good, I would probably live with it. The others here would have you flow rate it, so would I if it is possible, if the symptoms get worse. JimN
