I put new pump in it twice in five years, and it still steers kind of stiff, worse when loader is on it. Brakes work fine and bushings are good. Wonder if its in the orbit type motor under the steering wheel? Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how to solve. Five years ago i had a local mechanic put in a straight shaft in place of park, don't know if this has anything to do with it but start steering hard not long after. Thanks for any replys.

Tractor vet, how deep would this o-ring be and is it accessable from the side cover where the pump is bolted to? Could the o ring have been pinched or flawed that it worked fine and months later start to leak enough to make the steering stiff? If you could reply on the location of the o ring in question I would appreciate it. Thanks again.

The mechanic has put in straight shafts before and plugged what needed to be plugged and put on a different cover from a non ta tractor from the salvage yard, steering only got bad that winter after that was switched so I don't think the two are connected, I will check the pressure once and see where thats at and if it is where it is suppose to be still think its that orbit thing under the wheel. Thanks for your replies.

YEp as he probably did not make the changes to the MCV for a non T/A tractor and you are dumping fluid back into the transmission that shold be going to the T/A and thus not getting to the steering . SOOOooooo if ya want good steering again then two choises here put the T/A back in or go on the hunt for a non T/A mcv . Tryen to be cheap always has it's down side .

The steering gets priority over the rest of the hydraulic system so I don't see how eliminating the TA should be a problem since it is downstream from the steering.Check the steering pressure first to determine if it is a hyd or mechanical problem.

If ya don't block the passages then she is still dumping oil to the T/A that ain't there BTDT and is ya don't plug the passages then it is dumping oil , Guess ya missed that one in T/A eleminator 101 . Since the power steering only uses 3 gal a min the rest is for the T/A ,lube and brakes and cooling . Now one other thing here is if the O/Ring down on the lower left was not installed as i have seen may time when work is done by them guys that know it all and forget to replace it when they put things back together then ya can have a poor steering tractor and this also showes up when the t/a is pulled back in the low side but not in the high . So it is like this since i can not see the tractor and check it out myself then i give ideas as where to start looking and if that is not where it is at then ask me something else or give me more to go on. I am pretty darn good on these tractors as i have had more then my fair share of then scattered across the shop floor to the point that all that was setting there were bare cases . Now the fun begins when ya have a couple 06' and a couple 66's and a 86 all down and all done under the influince of alkihol and put them back together the same way use to drive my buddy goffe that i could sort all the parts and get them into the wright tractor .
