How many gallions of hy-tran fluid does it take to fill the hyds/tranny/rear end?? Also does the hyd filter look like sort of an air filter and has any body seen one that is just plain comeing apart. I pulled the filter today and its a mess. Its just plain comeing apart and have a new one on order. Thanks

Hello OLD, The 340 Farmall holds 10 gallons of hytran, maybe a little more. I know this from when I changed mine before I got the manual. I put in ten gallons as someone on here said but got nothing out the check plug, went and bought another five gallons and it took about a quart. Also when I changed it the filter was a mess like yours. I thought maybe someone had used a grocery bag for a funnel and dropped it in the fill hole. There seems to be two different filters, depends on the pump size I think. My screen looks like it has a spring loaded bypass valve built into it. If you have more questions I'll have to get my manuals out at the farm, but feel free to ask. Good luck with your 340 you're going to love it. Later PUTTER

Hi old,

Although the book calls for 10gal, my IH-340 likes 13gal before all the common hydraulics works well. I haven't taken the time to find out why this would be.
