Hey everyone!I haven't been here in a long while.well my mom traded one of her buggys for a tractor to move round bales and well she got a Farmall M with a 3 ponit hitch and a bale spear.its got good rear tires new paint.looks decent. well she had me look it over and i only found that the left brake is not working.so i fired it up and everything seemed ok,took it out on the road in 5th gear and got about 1/8 amile and it started sputterying like it was running out of fuel.it died so i restarted it and when i tried to let the clutch out it would bog and die.I finally got it turned around and had to run it in 4th back to the drive and then it died again. it then would not re fire.I have good spark ( has been switched to 12v,with altenator)I choked it and it still nothing and when i stopped cranking i got gas running out of bottom of carb.
Not sure what to think.I didn't pull any plugs out as i had no tools with me.My old H would do this and i rebuilt the carb but it still gave me fits.i need to get this fixed so she can use it on her farm.
thanks guys

the tractor was redone a few yrs ago from what i can tell.the tank is clean, has a new fuel line, sediment bowl is clean and full of fuel.carb has fuel,I opened a butterfly like drain on the bowl and i get clean fuel out of it in a stream. So fuel delivery to the carb i don"t think is the problem.
would the jets be plugged maybe?even though i have clean fuel.the gentlemen my mom got the tractor from has restored about 30 JD over the yrs and he did this one a few yrs back.said he used it to do hayrides.it has new paint.mom said when he delivered it she got on it and it ran good and he showed her everything. It just meesed up when i got on it i guess.lol

CNKS is probably correct. I will ad that a failing coil will act like that. If engine starts back up after cooling down, It may be a coil issue. Check the spark to be sure it is fat, blue, and at least 1/4" long when you put it near the block (with insulated pliers). JimN

Fuel flow: dirty tank, sediment bowl, fuel line, filter in carb, the carb needs cleaning, or all of the above -- In other words, dirt, rust and other crud. Doesn't do any good to clean the carb if the problem is upstream from it.
