pulling the hydraulic levers half stroke causes the engine to labor, a hydraulics to buzz and the hydraulic lines at the pump to jump (hoses replace part of hardline). full stroke and it locks in, functioning normally. the fast hitch will lift the tractor at low idle. must be somewhere in the valve assembly. where do i look? need to replace the reservoir top gaskets yet, good time to check out valves.
been an ongoing project this summer. first replaced the pump and intake screen. could say there wasn't one in there previously, it was that rotted. there were teflon chunks wound up in what was left of a screen. yay for case-ih techs about 15 yrs ago! recently replaced someone's patch job on the in and out pipes to the pump--they used hoses for some reason. it works so i just replaced the rotten hoses.

allright. i am used to the more modern stuff where speed/volume of cylinder/load operation is proportional to the magnitude of actuation on the control lever(s). just have to remember it's like a TA then. was scared i might have some blockage based on the teflon shards and junk i found earlier and the behavior not matching newer equipment.

thanks

I think that is a reasonable philosophy. Do not hesitate to eas into the lever to micro adjust a hitch hight, or attachment. I just would not make it a mode of normal operation. JimN

Gary is exactly correct. Try to avoid using the levers at partial settings unless necessary. Short full travel pulses is probably easier on the components. Do not feel that it is bad for it, just realize it is happer when full on in eather direction. JimN

Sounds normal to me. I have a 340 with I think the same hydraulic system. Once you start any flow in the hydraulic system the pressure control valve closes and boosts the system pressure to high. That puts a load on the engine and the hoses get stiff. With little flow, hand valve only partially open, the pressure relief valve buzzes as it hits the high pressure limit. Or sometimes the pump makes noise. Opening the hand valve fully drops the pressure some as the cylinder operates. Once you close the valve all the way the pressure control valve opens and bypasses the system and the system pressure drops to a low value.

If the single/dual valve settings are not right things will work opposite. You will have the engine loaded all the time and when you open a valve to operate a cylinder the engine will speed up with less load.

This condition will also happen if the small orifice and screen are plugged in the control valve module.

Regards
Gary
