I am in need of some assistance w/getting off what appears to be a threaded on steering wheel. I removed the jam nut and can find no evidence of a keyed shaft or even a splined shaft as indicated in a previous post. Is this possible?? I would cut it off to find out what it is but I need the tractor everyday. The serial # is 39933 S-Y-C. I can't remove it to find out what it is. CaseIH around here is USELESS!!!

Neighbors look at me funny, steering it with a "handle".

Tapped holes on steering wheel hub are usually 1/4 fine thread. Will probably need cleaned out.

It about has to be splined and tapered like my 460. Attach a puller, and heat. You can use a propane torch if you want. Stand out of the line of fire when removing. It comes off all at once. Easier than the letter series.

As to the heat, the thing has a "plastic" cover. Mine was shot so I broke the plastic off first. If you want to save the wheel then you have to be more gentle.

Does that steering wheel have tapped threads into
it that could be used for pulling with a puller?
I'll contact a dealer in this area on Friday and see if they have a solution. Hal

Hal,

Maybe thats what what those two holes were one on each side of the shaft. I will have to check if those holes are threaded, that will be a relatively easy removal if thats the case. I still have to find out if there is only one type of shaft for that steering wheel. My folks are heading out to see my brother at APG this next week. I'll have to check how much sight seeing they are hoping to take in. I know they want to search for some amish country this Saturday afternoon. Do you have any suggestions of interesting places to visit?

Thanks for the replies...Judy is training about six horses now, and giving many lessons to the young and old alike. There are 19 head here now. Thank goodness I converted over to 3x4x8 bales.

Be sure to tell them to eat at Willow Valley. We usually go up there for Thanksgiving. It's just on the outskirts of Lancaster.

I watched the 10 o'clock news last night from York PA and they said an Amish farmer was charged with child endangerment for the death of his 8 year old son. He had put his son inside of of a piece farm machinery for some reason and then started the engine. They never said what the machine was. I'll send you an email on the steering wheel info. Did you locate another steering wheel? Is this tractor a diesel? Hal

Hal,

It's a gas, and no I have not yet located one. I haven't searched real hard either. $167.00 from Service Motors Company (our dealer here)

Thanks for your time!

Butch

I just sent you an email. Hal
PS: Does it have power steering? They asked for that info and I told them it did.
