After reading all the good info about freeing stuck engines, I went ahead and filled the #1 cylinder on the H my neighbor bought for his grandson with tranny fluid, PB blaster and some other "rust busters". Hung 200lbs of weight on the starting crank and let her sit.
Well it"s been a month and she is still froze solid, as soon as harvest is over my neighbor wants to haul it home, problem is it has a loader on it.
What are my choices for getting her freed up so we can drive the H home or tow it. Can we raise the loader somehow?

Bring all the tips you folks have got!!

Randy

I'm assuming I'm missing something and have never hauled a tracotr, but why not load it on the trailor backwards? I cant think why it would matter which way it is on the trailor as long as the trailor is sufficient and the tractor is PROPERLY chained down. Then you dont have to worry about the loader.

A long-time mechanic and old tractor guy once told me that a good thing to do with a stuck engine, after you've let the cylinders soak awhile, is to remove the starter and then use a long prybar to try to turn the engine in the direction opposite of rotation. This worked on my 650D and I had it unstuck in an afternoon- your results may vary..... Also, don't get carried away and break the teeth off the ring gear!

I did what arod did only it was on an A Farmall. Soaked them with ATF and didn't like laying on my back so I pulled the engine. Then use a piece of oak and a big hammer. Some of the sleeves came out too. Hal

I will fill all the cylinders with ATF and try the battery trick. When I pulled the plugs, all had oil on them except for #1, which was rusted. I did squirt some PB Blaster in all the cylinders, but gave #1 more "goop".
Great ideas for the loader problem!!

Another way that I have used to lift a loader up enough to load it on a trailor was to use a com-a-long. That works if the frame of the loader has a place up high where you can hook and get some lift.

Assuming the hydraulics are a belly pump/liftall, and that it worked when shutoff.
Pull the tractor backwards slowly with the trans in reverse. Hold the clutch down and pull the loader lift lever out. This will allow the belly pump to operate in the correct direction and lift the loader as though the engine was running.

I agree with Old on the use of ATF in the cylinders. Extend the arm of the crant to gain some leverage with the wt. and use a 12v battery to bump it. Good luck JimN

Where did you get all the supposed good advise?
I have only ever heard of about 1 in 50 freeing up with oil and soaking. Pull the head and use a 10 lb sledge and a wood block. If that doesn't work knock it out in pieces if necessary.

Back another tractor up the H and hook the hydraulic hose to it and lift the loader to the desired height then unhook the hose. Hopefully the loader cylinders don't leak so much that it settles back to the ground before you get home.

As for the engine - pull the head and start soaking all the cylinders. It will also give you the chance to see exactly what you're dealing with. You may discover that the rust is much worse then you you thought.

Why didn't you fill all the cylinders?? With out haveing the head off you can't be sure which cylinder is the one that is locking it up. Also my self I won't use a mix of stuff just one of them. My self I use tranny fluid and so far out of more then 10 tractors it has worked all but one time. FILL all the cylinders with tranny fluid, then take a good battery and set in on the tractor after a day or 2. Hook the battery up and do short fast hits of the starter button. A starter will put out a lot more torque then you can by useing the hand crank or even one of the rear tires. BTDT and found out the starter will brake them free if they are going to brake free. Make sure you put the plugs back in when its sittting and pull them when you try to turn it over. Also be prepared for a mess of oil flying out the plug holes when it lets loose. I just popped an Allis C free last week and it purrs like a kitten now

I assume you still have the head on. I also cringe when i think of what the rust will do if you get it to turn over as it is not a good lubricant. The other three cylinders need help too.CENTAUR

remove the head
spray some wd-40 on the cylinder walls
remove oil pain
unbolt connecting rods
get a 1" wooden dowel... AND POUND AS HARD AS YOU #!*&*&^ CAN, and they WILL come out the top.

this only takes an afternoon to accomplish, and you have to tear it open anyways to re-ring as they are rusted against the cylinder walls.

if you choose to not unstick your engine, just put in neutral and tow her home, that easy.

as far as the loader, I had the same problem once.

get some bottle jacks and raise the loader and chain the arms to the front bolster.

I would try tranny fluid in all the cylinders.. As for towing, I am assuming the loader is on the ground. Well you should be able to lift the loader with another loader, make sure to pull the control to make the loader go up as you lift. This should move fluid into the correct side of the cylinder and whe you let go of the lever it should stay up . It may sag some but not clear to the ground. If that dosen't work just run the chain under the bucket of the tractor and hook it to the front end. When you pull it will raise the bucket off the ground. It will also go back down as you slow or stop... But it should be manageable... good luck Tallperson
