Hello to all, i have a super a that runs in the red on oil pressure when it gets up to running temp, i put new bearings in it this last winter and that had helped a little. however i plan to do a rebuild this winter and have a few options and need advice.
1. i have an old engine with a bent rod (piston locked up in sleve) crank is turnable, and i can get another rod for 20 dollars, it will need an oil pump.

2. i can rebuild the one i have, but have more down time.

some more questions i have are this...
on car or truck engines i always replace the oil pump, shouldnt i do it on my tractor? if so where can i buy one, is it dealer only? what about the bearings for the cam and the govenor, should they be replaced, and in trucks, i almost always replaced the cam, what about my tractor cam, and if so where can i find one? are tisco engine kits the best what do you all recomend?

any and all advice apreciated.

Iwould try a guage that i knew to be ok first. I just bought another B that had terrible pressure so i just tried a new guage and presto lots of pressure and that isnt the first time i have found same problem.

That engine doesn't have cam bearings. You should
do what Dave recommended on the pump. I think
the gears may be available. I have a parts breakdown on the Super C pump if you need it.

You should have the crankshaft measured for wear.
Your mains may be worn and close tolerances on these determine good oil pressure too. If the shaft is worn a few thousandths you can use .002" undersize bearings. I did that on an A Farmall.
This engine had so much sludge in it I don't know how any oil got to the bearings. Hal

Drop the oil pan. Clean the oil pump screen and take the bottom plate off of the oil pump. This plate will be worn from the gears running against it. Have this plate machined smooth. Replace the pressure regulator spring and plunger. Chech the gears for wear(probably will be OK). Put back together with new, very thin gasket and you will have rebuilt your oil pump. Reinstall oil pan with new gasket also. This will most likely bring your oil pressure up to an acceptable level. If your engine doesn't knock or smoke you may be all set. Good Luck. Dave.

The plate on the oil pump may also be warped from the relief spring pushing on it. This creates a gap where your oil pressure leaks out. Make sure it is flat. Common problem

You can get the parts you need from your local Case/IH dealer or NAPA or various other aftermarket sources.
