These Lancaster Amish made a big improvement over the way we loaded corn bundles after it came out of the binder. We used to load those all by hand, stacking them on a wagon. Have lots of memories of those days around silo filling time. Seems a lot of it centered around what tractor was best on the belt power when trying to load (or overload) the blower/tractor combination, watching the belt open up under power, applying liberal amounts of belt dressing, hearing the governor open up on the tractors, etc. Lots of good memories.

Yep, I'm from Lancaster, PA. That's how it's done. The blower is run by a tractor off a belt. Some of the Amish have gone to silage bags like alot of the English farmers (Non-Amish).

YOU BET.
we have several amish communities up here
in centeral pa.
we see this all year round.
these folks are not afraid of hard work and are very forgiving as shown with the murders of those poor girls in lancaster.
your picture does show how farming has advanced over the years, but still gets done the old ways too.

Yes, the Amish showed they can practice what most of us preach after the killings of the children.

I would have like to have seen their chopper and how it was powered. This reminds me of how we did it 60 years ago when I was a teen. We didn't even have a binder. Took about 2 to 3 weeks to fill both big silos until someone bought a chopper
around 1949 or 1950 in our area and did custom silo filling. In 3 days both silos were filled to the top. We had 2 people tramping all day long. Hal
