I want to narrow up my M's to get on a skid steer trailer. The operators manual says with the wheels dished in the tread with is 52 -68 inches. Can I still have my fenders with extensions on the tractor if I move the fenders to the second set of holes. I have 13.6 tires on the tractors so assuming at the the 68 inch tread with will the outside of the tires be around 80- 81 inches?

If you add 68 and 13.6 you will get 81.6 inches. That will be from the widest part of one tire to the widest part of the other tire. 13.6 is the widest part of the tire cross section. Minimum center to center tread width on the M is 52 inches. 68 is the maximum tread width with the wheels dished in. Pay attention to the GVW (trailer + tractor weight) of your trailer. The typical 7000 lb GVW trailer is loaded to capacity, or more, width an M on it.

CNKS: I wouldn't get too concerned about the bobcat trailer as far as weight is concerned. Most of those little bobcats are pushing 6,000#, and it's concentrated weight, not spread out like the M. The two new skidsteers I had back in the 70s, one had a counterweight and was over 6,000#, and the other just under. Some of the new one's today are getting up in the 7,000# to 8,000# range. The little beasts are much harder on a trailer than my 300, 560 or 656 were. I expect most bobcat trailers are rated 10,000# or more.

Why anyone would build a trailer that heavy and not have a 8x 16' or 20' deck is beyond me. There are a lot of them out there though, 10,000# capacity and little more than the size of the bobcat.

I was looking at a 18' with a two foot dovetail and 83 inches between the fenders that is rated at 14000 GVW skid steer trailer. The reason I was considering that type of trailer is because I don't like the high profile of a deck over (gooseneck or bumper pull) trailer.

M with 13.6 X 38 tires and 11 inch wide rims is about 86 inches outside to outside with wheels dished out. If you turn your wheels around and make outside measurement 83 or little less the fenders will still work. You would only be 3 or 4 inches narrower than wheels dished out and all the way in.

Retcol: I'm kind of with Cowman on this. A lot of you folks want a big tractor set narrow enough to go on a little trailer, never mind the fact tractor is too narrow for safe driving anywhere but on level ground, and even then one wouldn't want to turn quickly.

Go get yourself a trailer that fits the tractor, or trade the M of for a Cub or an A. Sounds to me like your trying to play a big boy's game with a little boy's trailer.

Measurements in manual are from center to center of tires. Rim and tire width will effect were inside and outside of tires end up. Although I have never tried it with fenders, Im pretty sure there's not room for fenders at narrow setting. Not hardly room to get on and off tractor.

My friend has an idea that when they make a shirt that if they don't have enough material to make long sleeves and two pockects that they should wait until they can get more fabric. No sense wasting material on a half-job. I kinda feel that way about narrow trailers.
