My Son, Wife and I are restoring our first Tractor. Someone told us to use oven cleaner to get the paint and grease off the engine block.

Does anyone know if this will cause the new paint to peel in the future

If you have access to a steam jenny it will do a good job too. You need to use the recommened detergent for the steam jenny. They have been outlawed where I retired from, since we were near the Chesapeake Bay. I have used that Dawn Power Dissolver too on grease. Hal

I used oven cleaner when I was preping my F-20. It had been painted years earlier and was really peeling. I sprayed it on and let sit for 15 mins then hit it with the pressure washer. Really worked well. You will want to were a resperator though the fumes are really strong even out doors

If you use oven cleaner, rinse alot then wash down with straight vinegar, scrub with a brush and rinse a lot more. Oven cleaner will also destroy any thing made of brass or aluminum.
Gunk Engine Brite, Purple Power, wire brushes, an a putty knife should also come in handy.

It sure will if you don't get it all rinsed off. I don't know if you might be able to neutralize it with baking soda. I think oven cleaner is lye based so probably not. Don't be afriad to use plenty of water.

I have just completed the cleaning and painting of my 400. I used over cleaner to clean the whole tractor. The oven cleaner will take everything off including paint. When I completed the cleaning I washed it off several times with soap and water before I painted it..In my opinion I would never use any thing else to clean and paint a tractor.
