I use diesel to flush pretty much everything. It's a light oil and will mix with just about any other oil it also drains and evaporates quick.

Fill your gearbox about halfway and jack up the rear wheels so you have no contact with the ground. Run it in first at idle for just a little while so it can work into the bushings and bearings then drain. It will break down any sludge and gunk you have built up. Don't run your tractor on the ground with 100% diesel in the box because the diesel is far too light of an oil to float between the gears.

I use it as a engine cleaner/flush too. Replace 1-2 quarts with diesel and run till the oil breaks down.

As Steve says and also leave the drain plug out over night so it will drain out even better

If there was water I usually put in some lighter weight oil (like motor oil) and some kerosene or diesel fuel, drive around a while, drain really good. Then re-fill with the 85w-140 (or 80w-90 if you prefer).
