I got my tractor split today, went really well, less than an hour. Local dealer had the clutch in stock, but was just way to expensive. I told him what I could purchase one for at this site, but he would not budge on the price. I bought it here, I can wait a week for it to get here. I saw first hand how important the clutch return spring is and the proper free play. The man I bought the tractor from said it did not have one when he bought it, but it had a new clutch. The fingers on the pressure plate where all but gone. At least the flywheel was in great shape, no discoloration or heat checking. I think this is going to be a fun tractor. Thanks to all who have given advice so far.

Hi Bewildered, good news that you can fix the clutch problem. Clutch return spring is very important, they often break and fall off without notice.

I think someone has already mentioned to mount pressure plate and clutch on the shafts, then put tractor back together then put bolts in pressure plate/flywheel thru inspection hole. Some people take the starter out so they can use a screw driver into the ring gear to turn engine over to get next set of bolts in flywheel.

Good luck
