When I start my 1650 cub cadet its very hard to start, great commpression, new starter new battery. I sometimes i need a battery booster to get it started. I've read about the A.C.R. automatic commpression releash and I fear this may be the problem. Any ideas or suggestions short of tearing the engine apart and repairing yhe a.c.r.?

is this a k361? 16 hp? I rebuilt one for my dad and after I was done we would have such a hard time getting it going. There is little riveted tabs on the cam that work the compretion release and are known to fail. I ended up pulling it back apart and replaceing the cam and works great now

Have you changed the points lately? It may need new points or need to be timed, if it is firing too far BTC, then it will also do what you are discussing. If this doesn't solved yer problem, take off the valve cover and slowly turn the engine over, if the ACR is working you should see the intake valve lifter kinda bump a little when it comes up on the compression stroke. You also may have a starter that needs to be taken apart and cleaned and new brushes installed.
