I posted a few days ago about a calf that I had a lot of drugs in and money and it wasn't doing so well. I went through the bottles of meds I had in the barn and I wasn't sure about shelf life but rather than tie up more money or lose the calf I gave it MICOFIL and OCXYVET that I had on the shelf, went in this morning and the calf is breathing quietly and naturaly, no sign of fever and the nose is warm, this has been a three week run and over $150 in drugs, I was so frustrated with that calf and it appears my gamble is paying off...still won't make a darned cent off that little heifer, but I've only lost two calves in 7 years, I like to keep my record in the "Lived" column..... Yep, the Micotil is the nxt thing to a wonder drug. BUT, be careful with that stuff. Micotil and humans do NOT mix. One prick of that stuff and you probably won"t see morning. Farmer in Arkansas accidently gave himself a shot in the belly, 3 hours later he was dead.

Mike, Glad to hear your calf is doing good. My daughter is still takeing care of the twin calves. I found one of my pails and she is using it. Makes feeding a little easier. The calves are beginnig to eat a litte feed and hay. We are still going thru a 25 pound bag of milk replacer about each week. Thats beginning to add$$$.

I wish my calf loss was as low as yours. Seems I either don't have the time or maybe just don't take the time to watch the cattle as close as I should. Lost a set of twins back in the summer and two more calfs all at about the same time. I think it was a combination of heat and cows not giving enough milk. Probably could have saved them if I had found them in time.

I feed range cubes either in a trough or on the ground. Nearly get trampled every time. My cows used to not be that way. Not sure why they are so aggressive now.
