I found there is a sizable split on the neck just above the top of the radiator on my M. I had some problems with it overheating this summer when disking and I think this is the reason - the radiator isn't pressurized with this split. Can I just braze it. Any tricks to doing that.

I don't know how you braze brass without making a large hole. It should be soldered. Get a peice of brass sheet metal that covers the split by 1/4" all around. Clean and solder everything in the repair area. You need to be careful that you don't un-solder nearby joints. Give the job to a radiator shop if you don't feel qualified.
