Super H and NH baler question

I"ve seen a decent NH 275 with a bale-thrower (has the two hydraulic cables on top of the PTO) for sale locally, my question is: can a Super H without hydraulics run this version of the 275?

Thanks in advance!

Marc

Just curious what the 275 cost there. I picked one up this spring, very nice condition, still had some red paint on the chains, for 1100 US dollars. (no thrower but had the chute extension). Needed one birdfoot and a spring, and two pair of wedges, so I was in another 110 dollars. Adding the extra wedges sure helped the bale size and unifromity. Those birdfeet come in pairs and I just needed the one so holler if you need one. They are a little trendy.

Gordo, I've seen 3 of them in my area, one for $600 Cdn (no word on condition, but after seeing a photo I assume it hasn't been used in a while, although it is shedded and the paint looks fine), the other two were for $1250 and $1500, both looked like they were in decent shape. But all 3 had the hydraulic bale throwers so, according to Hugh, it looks like I'm outta luck for these 275s! Thanks for all the replys, this forum is a great source of info and help!

Marc: Don't know as I'd put it quite that way, if that machine is hydraulic direction of thrower, that could be changed to mechanical direction very easily. Send me a photo, I can quickly tell you.

Now if the thrower belts themselves are hydraulic motor, that would be a difficult change over.

My NH baler with thrower was a S-69 the very first model they installed a thrower on. Belts were pto driven and thrower direction was controlled by a mechanical arm hooked to wagon tongue.

By the time these new fangled hydraulic throwers came along I was using a round baler, thus I never followed them very closely. However if it's just hydraulic directon pointing thrower in direction of the wagon, most any fabricator could build a mechanical one of those for $50.

Thanks valley, the land I'm on is very flat so I don't think the Super H will have any power problems, I'm just wondering if a tractor without hydraulics can work a baler that has the bale-thrower attachment?

Marc: I think he missed your point, if that thrower has hydraulic controls, yes by all means you need hydraulics on the tractor. The early NH throwers had a mechanical swing for the thrower, was just an arm from the thrower clamped to and allowed to slide on wagon tongue.

It would probably be an easy conversion, the mechanical swing was quite a simple device, could easily be fabricated by a local shop. How far away from Strathroy are you? I had a thrower with mechanical swing, and if I saw it, could soon tell you how to overcome this. The mechanical swing throwers work fine on level ground. Side hills is where the hydraulic swing counts.

I've bailed for years with my super H (NEVER had engine work) and a NH 273 hayliner with a belt kicker. We have a few steep hills-30* slope and it is 1st gear only for those, but other than that, really no big problems in 2nd gear. 3rd gear is a little more than I want to work her, but in light hay on flat ground,if you have a fresher engine, mabey. Just back up and give her about 10 feet to wind the bailer up to speed befor you hit the hay. Mike
