Hi everybody, The guy that sold me my cockshutt 40 told me that a 300 hydraulic pump will fit on a farmall H to have live hydraulics. Is this true?
If so, what others parts should I need to convert it to live hydraulics. He told me that it will bolt to the distributor bracket.

Also the cockshutt the guy sold me have a 180 loader on it. is the H a good loader tractor? would it lift a full bucket of gravel and keep steering? Thank you very much

The timing gears were never changed from the first H to the last 350. The front cover that the hydraulic pump bolts to was changed with the Super H. Chuck

It depends on how old your H is, whether the pump will bolt up or not. Somewhere around 1950 or so, IH beefed up the timing gears and changed the design of the front cover to accomodate the live hydraulic pump. I know it was 1950 for the M, but it may not necessarily be 1950 for the H.

For sure, if your H was made in the 1940s, the pump will not bolt up without replacing the timing gears and front engine cover. The other guy in this thread that modified the original cover, while it works, it is hardly ideal. He's playing with fire so to speak, trying to run that pump on the weak original timing geartrain. Even the later heavy geartrain isn't enough in some cases.

There are other live pumps that bolt up to the original timing gear train, but they are no longer produced, and are tough to find.

Loader on an H. in reply to Nat 2, 10-13-2006 05:46:45
The H is a little light for a loader, especially if you want to lift and move a bucket full of gravel. You'd need lots of rear wheel weight, and either power steering or really huge arm muscles. A bucket full of snow would be ok.

There's a picture of one in Stuck and Troubled that broke in half at the Liftall housing.

I ended up with an extra new hyd pump for my 300u. I called the dealer and asked what it would fit. I was told Super H, 300 and 350.

Hi, I put live hydraulic on my 41 H more than 30 years ago, it is still my favorite loader tractor, have an IH 2001 loader on it. You will need to redo 2 of the bolts to put the pump on. I drilled and threaded one and made a clamp for the other. I use the transmission for a resevoir. Clean it out well and get a good suction filter, I got one from Northern. Use the drain plug in the center rear, pipe it around the corner so you are headed forward, then I put in a 1 inch pipe cross with plastic plugs screwed into the side ports, the plugs have a hole made in the center, this allows a cow magnet to be suspended between them. Then pipe threw your suction filter and on to the large hole on the pump. You will need to come up with a port block for the bottom of the pump, get it from a super H threw 350, and fix the plumbing on it to work for you. Then pipe or hose from the pump to your valves, I use two char lynn valves mounted on the right side of the seat, junked combines can be a good source of valves, be sure they have a preasure relief valve built in, or supply your own. Then put on a 10 micron filter and a return hose to the fill plug beside the steering post, plump your preasure hoses to the loader, fill the transmission with Hy-tran and you are ready to go. I put a street ell in the oil check , so it raises the level about 2 inch. Another reason I like this is it has enough oil reserve to use hyd. motors, which I do a lot.

Yep a hyd pump should fit on an H from a 300, but they aren't cheap. Can't say what else you would need. Also unless the H has a wide front they can be a little unsafe with a bucket load up high
