Got on the phone today looking for heli coil kits or keen serts. Only found heli coil kits, and price ranged from $25.49 to $49.97, all include tap/tool/6 inserts. Are there differences in quality in these different priced heli coils? or is heli coil a brand name?
As always, thanks for reading!

Go to Mcmaster.com and price out their generic kits. Hopefully, they'll be a LITTLE cheaper.

Also, I have picked up an odd Helicoil set or two on the cheap on ebay. Probably have to watch a few auctions, but eventually, a deal usually shows up.

What size and thread pitch are you looking for?

I am looking for 1/2" course, I think that is, or about, 13 threads per inch.

There's someone selling generic 1/2" kits for $9.99 on ebay. See auction #290037796342.

Heil coil is a brand, But several companies make similar products. There is the possibility that you could rent the drill and insertion tool from a rental outfit, and just purchase the coils. There is no need to buy something that is used once. (or you could buy it then donate it for a tax writeoff to a local HS or Technology school!!!. JimN

Just go ahead and buy it, once you have a particular size you will need it again sometime. Over the past thirty years, every time I absolutely needed a Helicoil, I would close my eyes grit my teeth and order that size, no matter what it cost. Once I had them I used thme more often, instead of fiddling around with makeshift solutions. By the time I am ninety three years old, I should have the whole set.
