I just saw this bennett road gear on ebay and wondered if it was any good or just more junk. Never heard of the brand.

Hope I didn't get in to late. I have one of these units sitting in box. The pinion gear is shot, but the rest of it is there and in very good shape.

Sry, I had already offered the guy 75 for it, and he accepted. I may want to purchase for parts, however. You know, combine two for one. Let me know if you want to sell individual parts off it or a total price for the unit. Just shoot me an email. I may be calling on you for guidance as to how to assemble this beast.
Thanks, Michael

Also, I think the input yoke is missing. Your old one can be cut down to fit, but having the 'right' one is best.

Thanks, also, how are these units supposed to operate, ie what hooks to what and so forth?

Mike, the operation is very simple. When using the normal gears 1-4, you select one gear to connect the lower shaft to the upper shaft inside the tranny. The road box does exactly the same, but on the outside of the tranny. You have the main tranny in neutral, and shift the road box 'in', effectively connecting the lower input shaft to the upper output shaft with another set of gears. It just so happens that the road box has a specific gear ratio (overdrive) to make you fly down the road. I suppose, if you were good with machining, you could reverse the function and make a really low-low-low gear. Also, you can (maybe) use the road box as a parking brake by shifting the main tranny into a gear, then shifting the road box in, effectively putting the tranny in two gears at the same time. It may not be a good idea if you forget to shift both into neutral before starting the engine.

it looks like he is missing the top coupler piece that the shifter gear slides on. I have a similar unit with a broken case but no way to know if the parts would interchange. His price is cheap enough.
